This is a remarkable condition Used Steinway Piano using their famous Frank Walsh design. This is a Hepplewhite, also known as Sketch F-73.
First produced in 1966, these are among the most beautiful furniture console pianos ever built and the smallest pianos ever produced by Steinway. Even better, they are 100% Steinway & Sons – using the high quality materials and design features that have make Steinway & Sons the standard by which all others are judged.
With a stunning hand-carved music desk and legs, encased in rich, mahogany wood, this used piano matches virtually any design style from traditional to transitional.
These pianos were the result of ongoing research and experimentation to develop a 40-inch high piano that would be musically balanced like a quality grand piano. The strings were designed with more even balance in tension, paying special attention to each string’s length for maximum tonal results. This included reducing the bass section to 28 notes and improving the break between the bass and center sections.
With a more solid hammer blow, positive damping action, and improved tuning pin layout and ration between speaking length and striking point of the strings, these hard-to-find Steinway pianos ushered in a new age in upright piano design. Even the plate was redesigned to equalize pressure and reinforced with six backposts that are better positioned to support the plate. Changes to the soundboard size and placement of the bridges were engineered to provide exact resistance to the downward pressure of the strings.
Like all of our preowned Steinway pianos, our technicians have thoroughly inspected this model and have brought it up to peak performance. As one would expect, this piano is ready to give its next family a lifetime of performance.
